The Truth Behind the Hype: buying a star

You may have seen or heard about the phenomenon of stargazing, the idea that if you stare up at the sky long enough, you too can become a star:  It’s an overly romanticized idea of what it means to live life as an astronomer, however, it is a concept that many people want to make a reality and it’s not as difficult as you think it is.

The concept of buying a star is based on the idea that if you buy one of the stars in the night sky, you can claim that star as your own, but the truth is that there are many other options available, such as purchasing real estate on Earth, becoming a citizen of another country, or even adopting a child, you can buy a variety of items. You can also buy a star, but it’s not as simple as that.

How Much Does a Star Cost?

The price of a star is difficult to predict; it will depend on its magnitude and relative brightness; for example, stars that are at least as bright as Polaris or the North Star will typically command a higher price because they are easier to locate in the night sky.

How does one buy a star?

Buying a piece of property on Earth is much easier than buying a star in the night sky-  because there are numerous ways to acquire property here on Earth, including investing in stocks, bonds, and real estate, volunteering for community service, and even adopting a child; whether it’s easier for you to invest financially or adopt a child, there’s something out there that will perfectly suit your needs.

The Cost of Living on a Star

To buy a star, you need to pay an astronomical fee, and to buy a star, there are steps you need to go through.

  • find out which constellation the stars in your name belong to.
  • choose whether you want a plot of land on Earth, some citizenship in a foreign country, or adoption of a child
  • find out which company is selling the stars and its legality to sell in the region
  • be warned that there are also many fraudulent companies out there that will overcharge you for something they’ve already purchased
  • contact your bank and make sure they can handle wire transfers
  • purchase order according to how the company prefers payment

How Long Does it Take to Buy a Star?

Buying a star is a complicated and expensive process and the first thing you need to do is find a company that sells it, when you find one, know how much it cost because the prices depend on the size of the star you want to get in return.

If you sign up for the Basic Package with Starregistry, they will give your child a certificate and their name will be published in their registry of stars, but if you want something more personalized like a constellation named after you or a printed certificate signed by an astronomer, then expect to spend some money.
